A Miami Beach Condo Flex Room That Does It All

If you live in a Miami condo—especially in Miami Beach or Brickell—you know the deal. Views? Unreal. Layouts? Sometimes… a little tight. Like me, you're probably always thinking of clever ways to make your space do more, without losing the luxury and ease that brought you here in the first place.

I’ve made it my mission to help my condo clients elevate their spaces—turning challenges into custom, design-forward solutions that feel effortless and sophisticated.

That’s exactly what my latest clients were after when they called me in to help with their two-bedroom condo on Venetian Causeway. They’ve been there for over a decade, and with the kind of view they have (think jaw-dropping Biscayne Bay and Downtown Miami skyline), they weren’t about to give it up for something slightly bigger, sans the view. Instead, we worked together to reimagine their space—and that’s where the magic happens.

Designing Smarter, Not Bigger

Like many Miami condo dwellers, they were expecting too much of the space as laid out.  The living room felt cramped, while the second bedroom was trying to be an office, a guest room, and a catch-all space… sound familiar?

So, we set out to re-design the layout.  We wanted the living space to feel larger, but also wanted to ensure that we would have space for a guest room, and if possible a workspace.

In the end we were able to accomplish all of the client’s goals by:

  1. Removing the wall that separated the second bedroom from the living room, and integrating them.  This added 40% more space to the living entire living area.

  2. Making the new extension of the the space flexible, so that it could function as a media room with a table as a workspace, with the ability to convert to a guest room with a comfortable queen bed, that appears only as needed.  No sad pullout sofa here.

  3. Building a movable wall to create full privacy when in use by guests.

The Luxury Flex Room Setup

To make it all work, we brought in two key pieces that are both beautiful and highly functional:

First up: a custom movable wall from German brand Bartels. It has three sleek panels that slide and tuck away neatly into a pocket—when it’s open, you’d never even know it was there. And when it’s closed? Instant privacy.

Then came the wall bed system—but not just any wall bed. This one’s from Italian brand Clei, available locally through Anima Domus. It’s built right into a custom wall unit, with a central panel that rotates. One side has a TV and book shelves; the other side hides a bed you can pull down in seconds. There’s even a wardrobe for guests to stash their belongings.

The Finishing Touches: Iconic Comfort

To keep the space elevated and easy to live in, we chose two incredibly comfortable “875” lounge chairs designed by Ico Parisi in 1960, now made by Cassina. They’re perfect for watching a movie or just lounging over cocktails. A classic Platner side table adds just the right amount of sparkle, and a gorgeous PA’ 1947 console, also by Parisi, doubles as a desk.

The Result? Effortless Luxury with a Side of Wow

What we created is nothing short of transformative. What started as a too-small living room and a cramped guest room is now a flexible, functional, and totally stunning expansive living space. The additional space does triple duty: It works as a den, an office, and a guest suite—all while making the overall space feel more connected. And perhaps the best surprise? We unlocked a second water view—this time facing the beach—that had been hidden from the living room before. Huge win.
